Gary Scalice

Gary was introduced to barbershop when he was a junior at El Camino High School in South San Francisco. He played lead clarinet in the band, tenor sax in the marching band and sang bass or solo lead in the choir. He was also taking piano lessons. The school was doing a production of The Music Man and the music director, Ted Marr "drafted" Gary as the bass for the quartet. Gary was hooked.

He received the Tom Knapp memorial trophy for Bandsman of the year (1966) and an award for "Oustanding Musician" He arranged the graduation music. Gary went on to The College of San Mateo where he played lead and bass clarinet in the Symphonic Band and sang in the Choir. He missed marching band and joined The California Kingsmen Drum & Bugle Corp playing baritone bugle. He also played in The San Francisco German Band & Orchestra where at a young age was introduced to an Ocktober Fest! Gary sang in church choirs and lead a worship team for The Vineyard Church home groups.
